Characters should feel like people who belong in the world: shaped by what they know, capable of failure, and subject to the consequences of their choices.

<aside>

Play your character, not the game around them. OOC knowledge, mechanics and relationships should never replace what your character has actually experienced.

Metagaming

Your character may only act on information they could reasonably know IC. Information learned through Discord, streams, another character, OOC conversations, Staff tools or other external sources cannot be used IC unless your character has independently learned it through roleplay. The same applies to game mechanics: knowing something as a player does not mean your character understands it. Creatures, locations, Sorcery and other discoveries should be approached according to what the character actually knows about them.

Powergaming & Godmodding

Do not dictate another character's actions, reactions, injuries or the outcome of a contested interaction. Emotes should describe what your character attempts to do when another player reasonably has the opportunity to resist or respond. Characters must remain within their established capabilities, and emotes or descriptions cannot be used to bypass systems intended to resolve uncertain or contested actions.

Provoking Conflict

Antagonistic characters are welcome; deliberately manufacturing conflict because you OOCly want PvP is not. Do not repeatedly harass, threaten, corner or pressure another character for the primary purpose of forcing them to provide justification for PvP. Antagonism should come from legitimate IC motivations and develop through roleplay rather than attempts to manufacture permission for a fight.

<aside>

Create conflict between characters. Do not manufacture PvP between players.

Fear & Self-Preservation

Characters are mortal people and are expected to have a reasonable instinct for survival. New Hope is dangerous and largely unknown, the world beyond it is collapsing, Sorcery carries terrible consequences, and much of what exists on the island has yet to be understood. Fear does not mean every character must panic, surrender or behave cowardly: a veteran warrior, hardened criminal or reckless antagonist may respond very differently from an inexperienced traveller. Fear can look like caution, hesitation, retreat, compliance, preparation or calculated risk. What is not acceptable is treating danger as meaningless because the player understands the game mechanics, expects another player to follow OOC rules or knows that a creature, location or mechanic is survivable.

Characters may be brave, reckless or defiant. They should not behave as though they know they cannot die.

Character Standards

All characters must be adults and portrayed as adults. Character concepts, backgrounds, races, abilities and knowledge should remain reasonably grounded in the setting and compatible with Conan lore and the established Winds of Exodus world. Adult characters may have any realistic adult body type; height, build, facial features or other physical characteristics alone do not determine whether a character is underage. Appearance may prompt Staff review where there is genuine ambiguity, but the character's concept and portrayal determine compliance with this rule. Characters explicitly created or roleplayed as children or minors are prohibited, and deliberately portraying an adult-labelled character as a child to circumvent this rule will be treated as a violation regardless of the character model used.

Alternate Characters

Each character must be treated as a separate individual with their own knowledge, relationships and involvement in the world. Information, resources or political access gained through one character may not be transferred to another in order to gain an advantage. Alternate characters may not participate on multiple sides of the same conflict, bypass Clan or Faction limits, transfer information between opposing groups or circumvent consequences affecting another character.

Rerolling & Shelving

After creating, rerolling or returning to a character, that character must be played for at least 3 days before they may be rerolled or shelved again.
