An Out-of-Character Guide to Sorcery in Winds of Exodus

FEARED Β· HATED Β· FORBIDDEN

Sorcery has existed throughout the Hyborian Age, practiced through forbidden traditions, ancient rituals, dark bargains and knowledge that most would rather leave buried. Sorcery is feared and hated across Hyboria. To most people, sorcerers are not respected scholars or admired wielders of extraordinary gifts. They are dangerous, unnatural and deeply mistrusted. Tales of curses, sacrifices, demons and terrible powers have shaped generations of fear and superstition.

While some cultures and individuals have embraced the occult, this does not make Sorcery an ordinary or socially accepted practice. A character openly displaying supernatural abilities should expect suspicion, fear or hostility. Practicing Sorcery carries social consequences as well as supernatural ones.

The Cataclysm changed the world, and Sorcery was not spared. Ancient rituals began to fail. Powers that had once answered their practitioners fell silent. Knowledge accumulated over generations became unreliable. Gods stopped answering.

On the island, no character begins with access to Sorcery, regardless of their history. A former sorcerer may retain their memories, knowledge and understanding of ancient practices, but this does not allow them to perform magic. Whatever secrets the island holds, discovering how to practice Sorcery here will require more than remembering how it once worked.

If you discover your first Sorcery-related Point of Interest (POI) and wish to pursue this path, open a Sorcery Ticket through Discord. You only need one initial ticket. Further discoveries can be explored naturally through roleplay unless Staff involvement becomes necessary. Opening a ticket does not guarantee access to Sorcery.

There is no publicly available checklist of requirements or guaranteed sequence of steps. Your character's choices, curiosity, research and interactions will shape their journey. Some secrets are meant to be discovered, not explained beforehand.

Knowledge, Secrecy & Consequences

Knowing about Sorcery is not the same as being able to practice it. Characters may possess knowledge consistent with their backgrounds, but knowledge does not bypass the island's restrictions or grant access to magical abilities. Likewise, information found in OOC documentation does not automatically become IC knowledge. Forbidden manuscripts, occult teachings and other discoveries must be encountered through legitimate roleplay.

Remember that Sorcery is feared and hated. Characters who pursue forbidden knowledge may have good reason to conceal their interests, protect their discoveries or distrust those who offer to teach them. Such secrecy should emerge naturally through RP rather than being treated as an excuse to bypass established server rules.
